Popular Menu Items:

Although famous for fish tacos, Rubio’s has a fairly extensive menu that includes salads, bowls, burritos and enchiladas. The main seafood offerings are beer battered pollock, tilapia, Mahi-Mahi, Atlantic salmon, sea bass and shrimp. There is also grilled chicken and steak on the menu.

There is a kid friendly menu as well so don’t be afraid to bring the whole family. Chicken taquitos, quesadillas and chicken bites are among the options for kids under 12.

If you have a large appetite, we recommend one of the filling burritos or taco combination platters. The salads are also hearty but will leave room for some dessert.

Mix & Match Taco Plate

If you have not yet tried fish tacos and you want to sample a few different flavors, this is a great choice for you. You get to pick two different tacos and have them with pinto beans and chips for $8.99.

Atlantic Salmon

You can have your salmon grilled or blackened on this taco. It is paired with fire-roasted corn, creamy chipotle sauce, cilantro and onion on a warm corn tortilla. It comes with two sides on a plate for $8.29.

Ancho Citrus Shrimp Burrito

The shrimp for this dish is basted in an ancho chile rub with garlic and cilantro then pan seared to perfection. A soft flour or whole grain tortilla is then stuffed with the shrimp along with citrus rice, guacamole, lettuce, black beans, creamy chipotle sauce and fresh salsa. It comes with a side of tortilla chips for $7.99

Balsamic & Roasted Veggie Salad

The greens for this salad are a mix of butter and spring lettuce which gives it a fresh and invigorating flavor. It includes roasted corn, sweet peppers, onions, zucchini and squash served with cool avocado, cilantro and onion. It is tossed with a light balsamic vinaigrette and finished with any of the fish on the menu. Or, try it with grilled chicken for $7.49.

Rubio’s History:

The first Rubio’s was opened in Mission Bay in San Diego, California in 1983. Co-founder Ralph Rubio developed a passion for fish tacos on several trips to Mexico during his college years. The original restaurant was actually a walk-up stand, just like the taquerias where Ralph enjoyed his first fish tacos.

In 2015, San Diego Magazine awarded Rubio’s with an award for “Best Fish Taco.” In the same year, Ranch & Coast honored the chain with the “Best of San Diego Restaurants” award. As of 2015 there are 190 Rubio’s in operation, focused mainly on markets in the Southwestern United Sates.
